Transformer voltage control and Tap changing
نویسندگان
چکیده
The voltage control is performed by changing the turns ratio. This is done by provision of taps in the winding. The volts per turn available in large transformers is quite high and hence a change of even one turn on the LV side represents a large percentage change in the voltage. Also the LV currents are normally too large to take out the tapping from the windings. LV winding being the inner winding in a core type transformer adds to the

Fuzzy Logic Controller to Improve the Coordination of Cascaded Tap Changers
The transformers which connect the different voltage levels in transmission and distribution systems are supplied with on-load tap changing mechanism. The on-load tap changer maintains the voltage amplitude within the predefined limits at the so called regulation bus. In a radial feeder, the on-load tap changers are cascaded. Poor coordination between cascaded tap changers causes improper volta...
متن کاملMulti-objective Based Optimization Using Tap Setting Transformer, DG and Capacitor Placement in Distribution Networks
In this article, a multi-objective function for placement of Distributed Generation (DG) and capacitors with thetap setting of Under Load Tap Changer (ULTC) Transformer is introduced. Most of the recent articles have paidless attention to DG, capacitor placement and ULTC effects in the distribution network simultaneously. Insimulations, a comparison between different modes was carried out with,...
متن کاملA Genetic Algorithm Approach to Voltage-VAR Control in Systems with Distributed Generation
This paper presents a case study that highlights the influences which the connection of distributed generation sources may have over the solutions of reactive power compensation and voltage control already existing in a given network. The problem of voltage-reactive power control to minimize energy losses was solved by changing the number of capacitor banks located in buses and changing the tap...
متن کاملGeneral and Simple Decision Method for DG Penetration
A distribution system was designed and operated by considering unidirectional power flow from a utility source to end-use loads. The large penetrations of distributed generation (DG) into the existing distribution system causes a variety of technical problems, such as frequent tap changing problems of the on-load tap changer (OLTC) transformer, local voltage rise, protection coordination, excee...
متن کاملOn-Line Independent Tap-Changing of Each Feeder Supplied by a Low Voltage Distribution Transformer
An on-line tap-changing circuit was developed for use with low voltage transformers (10 kV/380 V, or equivalent), in which the tap positions could be set independently for each low voltage feeder. This allows for possible variation in loads and distributed generation between different feeders fed from a given transformer, allowing the line voltages to be kept within limits on all feeders. A com...
